38:9. എന്നാൽ ആ സന്തതി തന്റേതായിരിക്കയില്ല എന്നു ഓനാൻ അറികകൊണ്ടു ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്റെ ഭാര്യയുടെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നപ്പോൾ ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്നു സന്തതിയെ കൊടുക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നിലത്തു വീഴ്ത്തിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

38:9. But Onan knew that the child would not be considered his. So whenever he had sexual relations with his brother's wife, he withdrew prematurely so as not to give his brother a descendant.

38:9. But Onan was not willing to have a child who would not be his own heir. So whenever he had intercourse with his brother's wife, he spilled the semen on the ground. This prevented her from having a child who would belong to his brother.

38:9. And Onan knew that the seed would not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brothers wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother.

38:9. But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his. So whenever he went in to his brother's wife he would waste the semen on the ground, so as not to give offspring to his brother.

38:9. And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled [it] on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
