2:1. അർത്ഥഹ് ശഷ്ടാരാജാവിന്റെ ഇരുപതാം ആണ്ടിൽ നീസാൻ മാസത്തിൽ ഞാൻ ഒരിക്കൽ രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ ഇരുന്ന വീഞ്ഞു എടുത്തു അവന്നു കൊടുത്തു; ഞാൻ ഇതിന്നു മുമ്പെ ഒരിക്കലും അവന്റെ സന്നിധിയിൽ കുണ്ഠിതനായിരുന്നിട്ടില്ല.

2:1. Then in the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought to me, I took the wine and gave it to the king. Previously I had not been depressed in the king's presence.

2:1. Early the following spring, in the month of Nisan, during the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes' reign, I was serving the king his wine. I had never before appeared sad in his presence.
