1:5. കപ്പൽക്കാർ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു ഓരോരുത്തൻ താന്താന്റെ ദേവനോടു നിലവിളിച്ചു; കപ്പലിന്നു ഭാരം കുറെക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവർ അതിലെ ചരക്കു സമുദ്രത്തിൽ എറിഞ്ഞുകളഞ്ഞു. യോനയോ കപ്പലിന്റെ അടിത്തട്ടിൽ ഇറങ്ങി കിടന്നു നല്ലവണ്ണം ഉറങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നു.

1:5. The sailors were so afraid that each cried out to his own god and they flung the ship's cargo overboard to make the ship lighter. Jonah, meanwhile, had gone down into the hold below deck, had lain down, and was sound asleep.

1:5. Fearing for their lives, the desperate sailors shouted to their gods for help and threw the cargo overboard to lighten the ship.But all this time Jonah was sound asleep down in the hold.

1:5. Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god; and they cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it unto them. But Jonah was gone down into the innermost parts of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.

1:5. The men wanted to make the boat lighter to stop it from sinking, so they began throwing the cargo into the sea. The sailors were very afraid. Each man began praying to his god. Jonah had gone down into the boat to lie down, and he went to sleep.
