2:19. മരത്തോടു: ഉണരുക എന്നും ഊമക്കല്ലിനോടു: എഴുന്നേൽക്ക എന്നും പറയുന്നവന്നു അയ്യോ കഷ്ടം! അതു ഉപദേശിക്കുമോ? അതു പൊന്നും വെള്ളിയും പൊതിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; അതിന്റെ ഉള്ളിൽ ശ്വാസം ഒട്ടും ഇല്ലല്ലോ.

2:19. The one who says to wood, 'Wake up!' is as good as dead— he who says to speechless stone, 'Awake!' Can it give reliable guidance? It is overlaid with gold and silver; it has no life's breath inside it.

2:19. What sorrow awaits you who say to wooden idols, 'Wake up and save us!' To speechless stone images you say, 'Rise up and teach us!' Can an idol tell you what to do? They may be overlaid with gold and silver, but they are lifeless inside.

2:19. Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise! Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

2:19. Look at them! They speak to a wooden statue and tell it, "Get up! Rescue me." They talk to a stone that cannot speak and say, "Wake up!" Don't you know those things cannot help you? That statue may be covered with gold and silver, but there is no life in it.
