23:23. കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങൾ തുളസി, ചതകുപ്പ, ജീരകം ഇവയിൽ പതാരം കൊടുക്കയും ന്യായം, കരുണ, വിശ്വസ്തത ഇങ്ങനെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിൽ ഘനമേറിയവ ത്യജിച്ചുകളകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. അതു ചെയ്കയും ഇതു ത്യജിക്കാതിരിക്കയും വേണം.

23:23. "Woe to you, experts in the law and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You give a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, yet you neglect what is more important in the law— justice, mercy, and faithfulness! You should have done these things without neglecting the others.

23:23. "What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law-- justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.

23:23. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye tithe mint and anise and cummin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith: but these ye ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone.

But you don't obey the really important teachings of the law—being fair, showing mercy, and being faithful. These are the things you should do. And you should also continue to do those other things.
